Laura Needs . . .

This is kinda funny. This is what you do: you go to google.com and type in your first name and then "needs" next to it and you post the first 5 things that you "apparently" need. So here are mine . . .

I am not really sure what to say about this, but apparently I am a few fingers short of a full hand a happy life!! I thought it was funny, so try it if you want!!

Winter Treasures

This winter we went with Chad's family to see the Christmas lights at Temple square. It was beautiful, as always, but very, VERY cold.

We took another weekend to see the Beehive house and Church History Museum. For those of you who don't know, the Beehive house was one of Brigham Young's houses.

Because I am sure most people don't know what it is like to give a carpenter the camera in such a place, I will post a picture that pretty much only a carpenter can appreciate :)

Apparently many a dignitary was entertained in this room.

I will never again complain about my "small" kitchen!!

SNOW!

I recently blogged about our future neighbors, so here is one for our other (current) neighbor. Ruth has been our neighbor since Chad has lived here. She is in her mid-nineties and has a great sense of humor! In one of our visits, she pulled down a can that said, "De-hydrated H2O" on the front of it. Then she said, "THIS is a treat! You just add water!!" I had to think about it for a second before I got it.

I just got a phone call from her. The first thing she said was, "How are you doing on snow?" I was a little confused, so I said, "What?" She said, "How's your snow? If you need some more, I can send some over!"

Here are a few pictures to illustrate how we are doing on snow!! (and being that she lives just next door to us, I assume she is doing just as great!)

While I am very grateful for the snow, which equates to our water supply for the upcoming summer, I am even more grateful for a neighbor who keeps me laughing. I think she is the most "with-it" person I know. And I love how she never fails to state her mind in a very frank manner.

One last story to illustrate my neighbor. On Christmas day I payed her a visit. She is not usually alone, but this day, of all days, she was. I asked her how her day was going, and in her reply was the wisdom of ages. She said with a smile, "I have been enjoying the music of the Tabernacle choir all morning. Isn't it lovely?" This is when I noticed the (ancient) TV quietly playing the hymns of Christmas.

I hope that when I am in my mid-nineties I can be just as with-it, and positive as she is.

Breakthrough!

First, I want to start off admitting that I realize I pretty much blog about my daughter, and that is it. Chad's projects (though badly outdated) are posted, but I just can't find anything in MY life more interesting than my little girl - she's stinkin' hilarious! So, YES, this is another post about HER!

She is now 8 months and we have had some AMAZING breakthroughs (some of them just this morning!). I didn't get pictures of all of them so I posted some other funny pictures, instead!!

1- She is now holding her bottle on her own! I had suspicions that she could, but was just too lazy to do so. This morning I found out that I was right! I didn't get any pictures of this, but here is another one taken Monday night as I went in to check on her, I found this:

2- She has recently mastered the art of the sippie cup. This is a big deal for me as I give her one at every meal thinking 'If she doesn't figure it out, at least it will keep her entertained!'

3- And this is the biggie- her new position. I will put her on the ground to play with her toys, and she pushes the toys away JUST SO that she can practice this little move. Despite Chad's best efforts to talk her out of it, I think she will be crawling VERY soon. (Sorry, hun!)

While I am in this chatty mood, I might as well ask this question that is pretty much always on my mind, what is it with babies and electronic devices that they aren't supposed to play with? It's like the first thing Breanne does (I almost think this is her motivation for crawling) is to get to our entertainment center and start trying to push the buttons on everything she finds! AND THEN she starts pulling the cords and trying to chew on them. So, what is it about these things she finds so fascinating? I will probably never know, but that is my question nonetheless.
